Hi rugby.
No one suggested coolddude was inappropriate, in fact it was suggested the title was appropriate.
Cool dude, incredibly successful studio, over 400 ....no humility here, sound like incredible boasting ...
Humility vs. Kids vs. dance competitors ? Ask for respect, humility comes with experience and age, it must be learnt , kids do not have it.
With such incredible success you would think cooldude was a good businessman who can attract and cater to needs of his students, is able to start, grow and manage his business, having no problem introducing and reinforcing his incredibly successful school's rules and regulations, and / or to discipline the few unruly "competitors" who may think they are Slaviks ...if necessary informing their pompous and equally rude and obnoxious parents to either change their attitude, have atlk with their Slaviks, or to move on . So what if he should lose 20 students. That represent just 5% of his incredibly successful dance school and he would probably attract more students as the atmosphere would become friendlier and cooldude would be more relaxed.
I was not sure if cooldude described behaviour of just the small kids who attend classes with their parents. I felt he talked about "competitors" as a group. I am also aware of the competitors' practice styles, their lack of respect for less able, slower, older, or social dancers ....not all, but a majority...even the top ones, who are often so self-absorbed in their practice they kick, hit or bump into those who are unfortunate to be withing their reach.
Is it just possible the school ( with over 400 pupils ) is overcrowded ? Not the right place for active dance competitors to practice, something which may frustrate their ambitious, trophies hungry parents ?
However , if the kids are such a disaster, do not listen, if they interfere with lessons, God forgive- touch music, as you Rugby suggest, it is the fault of the owner, the manager who was obviously to slow, to weak, too unskilled, too shy, or too afraid to react and discipline them, allowing the kid's behaviour to deteriorate, possibly influence other kids to act same ...lids do push their luck, test and try to see how far they get with their instructor, or the person in charge..
Live up to your nickname cooldude and explain to the parent and their unruly child how your studio is run, what you expects of the child and the parent and what behaviour you and your school cannot and shall not tolerate.
If you have lost the kids, and their parents respect, you are not cool dude Cooldude becomes Mat, a mat which is in your school to be stepped on, and such a school cannot be incredibly successful, unless you judge the success by having hundreds of unruly, obnoxious, spoiled, undisciplined kids who are allowed to do whatever they want oncluding making you upset, miserable and feeling helpless.
You cannot fix the problem if you do not see it, Accept the responsibility for it and fix it.
Be cool dude and repair what need be fixed, I am sure you will be not only incredibly successful but also incredibly respected by your students, including those who compete , they will consider you a cooldude.
Good luck
